Here's something to think on.
Rommel had historically one of the best intelligence gathering units a commander could have. They only really dropped the ball once. So here he is in Greece, in late August and his Intelligence unit is telling him that the Allies are most likely going to try to do a landing sometime in the next month or so in either Sicily or Southern Italy. Meanwhile in Greece he's been stuck in an almost World war 1 like standoff with Allied forces. Unknown to them, he's been since mid August receiving the new turret upgrades for his Panzer IV's to the long 75's. He's also received some turrets to upgrade his Panzer II's to the Marder configuration ( he most likely has the most PZ II's deployed ). Also new armour packs to upgrade front and side armour have been arriving. He calls in some favours and talks to the Luftwaffe.
-Torch +2 - Allies have a beach head and are facing 6 divisions on Sicily.
- Torch +2 - Station X - also known as BP - reports that all German transmission have changed to a new code, possibly a new enigma machine. Where people were running around like chickens with there heads chopped off since February because of the KM changing their codes and machines, things are now much worse....
- Torch +2 - Early in the morning Pickets and fixed radar around Allied positions in Greece are picking up 3 or 4 formations of 1 large aircraft escorted by what looks like 2 fighters sitting 60 to 80 miles out. Unknown to the Allies these are newly equipped Ju-88's with the new ASV units. There are currently mapping out all locations of ships and allied early morning fighter cover in the region. They are using this to direct low flying fighters and bombers streaking towards the Allies locations.
- Torch +2 - 20 minutes later, German aircraft assault radar, airfield, ammo dumps and ships all around the allies position. Warning is almost non-existant with aircraft only showing up on radar at 5km. Also all ships in the area are introduced to the new squadron of Ju-88's that has been practicing for deployment in the Bay of Biscay with the new F5 air launched torpedo. Surpirse is total and except for the morning cap almost all aircraft on the ground are destroyed almost immediately by either parafrag or bombs or straffing. Most ammo and fuel dumps are hit as are most of the harbour installations and ships. The cap reversing to attack the assault are bounced on by a fast high flying assault wing of fighters vectored in by the ASV equiped Ju-88's. Every german aircraft available in the theatre is being used.
- Torch +2 - 5 minutes later. Upon receiving a code word from the luftwaffe an all out assault is begun by Rommel. He concentrates his heaviest armoured tanks and ones with new guns in one location and drives directly at the Allies main control location. Because of the lack of the new gunned PZ-IV's he orders units of the older tanks to be made around the Pz-4's, 4 older paired with one of the newer. The Luftwaffe for once in several months has air superiority in the region and the bombers can now help Rommel with assaulting Allied ground units along with continually pounding Allied rear positions. Rommel takes special care to make sure that the italian units under his command look like they are making a much valued effort along side the German troops ( lots of pictures sent back to italy ).
Just a thought and is patterned on an attack he may have done.
