Mark,

Pretty much every discussion I've ever seen that mentions the idea of building 9.2" cruisers ends up nixing the idea over the issue of gun pits needed to build new rifles. Can you address this issue and how you see it playing out in APOD?

Are you sure that's 9.2"s,? Te gun pit issue most commonly bought up in discussion is that for BB guns, increasing the rate of rebuilt 15" etc, when people are talking about more Vanguards and the rate of QE rebuilds. using R class turrets and so on.

In any case it can only be a matter of capacity not ability, 9.2" guns had been made for CD work all through the 20's and 30's in small numbers, and continued to be (sort of) to the end of the war. being wire wound, re-lining the gun is about the same thing as building up from scratch, and hardly calls of deep pits as used to shrink all steel guns together.

Ok if they want to design a new gun rather than simply adopt the Mk.IX there's going to be an industrial cost, but otherwise the only competition on specialist big gun machiens is going to be re-linign 15" and that is presuming they use the same machines.
