- London and Algiers will not like this one iota. The USSR was an ally in fact and deed of Germany until they attacked it.

- Strategically, the choice for the Anglo-French is clear from day 1. There is no difference between the Germans and Russians. Both pose the SAME threat to the Anglo-French whoever wins. Atlantic alliance policy should therefore be for them to destroy each other, then the Atlantic Allies walk in and pick up the pieces.

Literally, what is the point of exchanging German continental hegemony for Soviet continental hegemony?

- Poland and the Baltic states are ALREADY major political problems with the USSR. France got smashed over Poland, so unless the Sovs are willing to grant an end-of-war status with Poland having her prewar borders and the 3 Baltic states free of occupation and their illegal annexation annulled, what is there to discuss?

- Britain and France will therefore be very cool towards Stalin. He wants help? OK, pay for what we have surplus. When the gold runs out, GUARANTEE the independence of Poland and the Baltic States within their original 1939 borders with ONLY the Polish Army on that soil. At German surrender the Red Army evacuates Poland and the Baltic States within 1 month back to its old 1939 borders and into its section of Germany. They'd have the right to use Polish railways as a commercial customer of the Poles, perhaps. The Allies would loan them ample ships to support their forces in their part of Germany. And that Polish Army and government to be composed only of Poles who were in government service or who were Polish Army officers in the 1939 army. No hordes of stooges claiming to be Poles but who only speak Russian. No deal on this? Then take a hike, Joe, you are no different from Hitler. Fight the war on your own resources.

- The great difference in FFO is that the Russians are not the only game in town on the continent, and the Chinese can be supplied via the Burma Road. To be blunt, at the start in FFO there is a hell of a lot less gear for the Soviets anyway.

- So as discussed elsewhere, the USSR is just not going to get hundreds of thousands of US 6WD trucks and other softskins. There is no need whatsoever to send them advanced Allied military equipment, radars, machine tools etc.

What London and Algiers will want to do is to send them useful equipment, but stuff a couple of years behind state-of-the-art. Acft: Hurricanes, Wellingtons, Hampdens; P-40, P-39, tanks: M3 Start light tanks, Valentines, Trucks: very few by comparison to OTL, machine tools, none, raw materials, explosives in bulk, aluminium, other goods grudgingly.Warships: old types refurbished, not new ones where it can be avoided, and they'll be refitted with older systems well behind the state of the art.. Submarines, U-class surplus to the Med and refitted early S class.

The impact on LL will be severe. There will be a lot less of it and the equipment will be older gear, still useful, but DEFINITELY not state-of-the-art.

The one increase might be 4 engined bombers. The B-17 is being discounted across the board in FFO. Perhaps come could be provided. The British might free up a token force of refurbished Stirlings.

Cheers: Mark
