That's actually a very good example of how just having a date permits all sorts of stories, without locking us into the 'day-by-day chrono' approach 'old FFO' uused and FTL still uses.
So it's very strong support for just having bare bones.

So what does that tell us?

By February 1943 Dominion status is already having an effect on Indian politics, ambitous National politicos looking to make their name are already trying to jocky for position and make their name.
  • In February 43 neither Ceylon or India had been granted Dominion status yet, but both are candidates (and well on the path towards it)
  • In Feb 43 it looks like the result is known - Ceylon gets it, but India  doesn't.
  • This is known in London, and in the upper (and exclusively British  elements of the Indian Government), but it is not widely known and everyone  wants to keep it that way - they can see the potential train wreck and are  looking at damage limitation.

Question - when will Ceylon result going to be announced - because thats the  logical time for the India announcement, and then things are likely to get  sticky!

Question - if India is going to get Dominion status in 44, when do we grant  it? (personally I'd say announcement 6 months before formal change of status to  allow preparations for the transition - with the added bonus that the  announcement could help quell the growing unrest). I have another machieavellian  story idea, so if possible I'd like the formal change no earlier than September  44

here (http://francefightson.yuku.com/reply/8228/APOD-Great-Deeds-Section-2-Invasion-Norway-1#reply-8228) we have Ceylon becoming a Dominion on 1 July 1943.

Israel becomes a Dominion on 1 January 1944.

We have no dates for Malaya.
Note Malaya and not Straits Settlements which is composed of Singapore and Penang-Wellesley province which will be an Independent Crown Colony at least at this early stage. It is likely that by negotiation during this period that 'Straits Settlements' will be broken up and a second (future) South East Asian Dominion born, Singapore-Sarawak, with Brunei staying an independent Princely State equivalent and Sabah becoming part of Malaya along with Penang and Province Wellesley.

So we can announce that publicly say two-three months earlier (or as suits) which will kick off a furor in India and accord with the existing storyline above. I guess that the furor will concentrate the minds of Congress party wonderfully and a 'first version' Dominion of India be announced within months of that date and formalised quickly.

Pride, ego and 'face' will force that. I mean, if Ceylon makes the transition quickly and peacefully, which it will, and Israel follows, and all the while the British are saying - publicly - 'come along you lot, get your act together, it's only your bickering that's stopping this', then at least some form of consensus will have to emerge, although I do not expect Hyderabad to accede early and there will be severe problems in Punjab and Sindh, maybe in Bengal too - but maybe not as there will not be a Great Famine there in APOD.

this will be due to Jinnah

In all honesty I see no drivers to squash the 'Two Nation Theory' (see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two_nation_theory) but I do see drivers to seriously reduce its impact. Things are happening well before the 'pakistan clique' is truly ready. I can see Baluchistan, the Pashtun north and most of Sindh breaking away, but partition of Punjab and Bengal is much, much less certain IMHO. This is due to them all being blindsided by how fast it happens, and then hit over the head by Ceylon moving seamlessly into Dominion status.
