I'm not sure about the Air Ministry writing off the Sabre so easily. They've seen working engines before the POD. Napier's main issue was her production, the engine had to be mass produced and Napier had no clue on how to do it. They were setup as a craftsman shop. Though Bristol was reluctantly forced to help with the sleeve valve production and Rolls Royce with the production line, the Air ministry had Napier sold to English Electric to try to solve the overall production problem and they did. With the Tempest, Typhoon all slated to use the Sabre, and the lack of pressure to build numbers of fighters but quality fighters by the Air ministry in FFO, do you not think they would react sooner than 1942? Also the requirement for out east wont really happen till 1942.

P.S> So Mark, how do we explain the B.20 then being resurrected from its cancellation after the POD?
